Fitzroy North Eye Centre has invested in state of the art optical equipment to provide you with the most comprehensive eye health testing available today. We can now detect eye health problems even earlier, in many cases before you experience any noticeable symptoms. As your eye health practitioners, our objective is to preserve your long term eye health and vision. We use OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) and OPTOS (ultra-wide angle retinal scanning) machines.
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a sophisticated scanning system that provides highly detailed images of the internal structures of the eye. It is often likened to an MRI or ultrasound, allowing us to view 3D cross sectional images of the retina, the innermost layers of your eyes. Whilst other testing procedures show the surface of your retina, an OCT scan differs in that it reveals what is below its surface. An OCT scan also measures the thickness of your retinal nerve fibre layer, a measurement that is a reliable indicator of the health of the optic nerve.
Using this cutting edge technology we can more accurately identify and treat eye disease and conditions including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and optic nerve damage from glaucoma. As these conditions can cause vision impairment and even blindness, early detection and management can safeguard your vision for the future.
Optos provides ultra-wide field, high resolution digital images of approximately 82% and 200 degrees of the retina. These images assist in management and treatment of disorders and diseases in the retina.
Both OCT and OPTOS scans are painless and quick to perform. A special camera using laser light takes an image of your retina then uploads the images to a computer. We store these images electronically so that we can monitor changes over time.
