Contact Lens and Packaging Recycling

Contact Lens and Packaging Recycling

29 August 2019

We’ve got really exciting news for contact lens wearers who are looking for a better way to dispose of their used contact lenses and contact lens packaging.

One of our suppliers, Bausch + Lomb, have teamed with the fine people at TerraCycle to provide us with a specialised recycling program. So forget putting your used lenses and their packaging in the bin – save them up then bring them in to us!

All brands of contact lenses and their associated blister packs can be recycled, thus diverting a huge amount of waste from ending up in landfill. Once received by Terracycle, the contact lenses and blister packs are separated by composition and cleaned. The metal layers of the blister packs are recycled separately, while the contact lenses and plastic blister pack components are melted into plastic that can be remolded to make recycled products.

But wait! The best is yet to come: for every kilogram of accepted waste collected, a $1 donation will be made to Optometry Giving Sight, an organisation helping to prevent blindness and impaired vision around the world.

Save the environment, save somebody from blindness – everybody wins! So bring your old contacts and their packaging into the store today, and let’s work together to make a difference.
